ParaPractice was commissioned to design a Wedding Chuppah for early September.
A chuppah (Hebrew: חוּפָּה) (also spelled hupah, chupah, or chuppa – plural: chuppot or chuppahs, Hebrew: חוּפּוֹת) is a canopy traditionally used in Jewish weddings. It consists of a cloth or sheet, sometimes a tallit, stretched or supported over four poles, or sometimes carried by attendants to the ceremony. A chuppah symbolizes the home the couple will build together. Chuppah literally means a canopy or a covering. (from wikipedia)

The Chuppah needed to be easily transported from New York City to Denver, Colorado as a carry on. This restriction guided the design process in many ways; the Chuppah needed to be lightweight and collapsable to a size of 22″ x 14″ x 9″. Grasshopper was used to populate, lablel, and fabricate the final designed surface. Drawing inspiration from “Ball Nogues Studio“, Zach Downey, and David Truebridge the network of surfaces took on a similar “X” aesthetic to generate the lattice work.
