While setting up a fabrication lab in Shenzhen, the heart of global manufacturing, we set out to build a machine from scratch in a single day. Walking around Huaqiang Plaza it was easy to acquire all the required parts, electronics, and cardboard to create a 3 axis drawing machine. With some help from a local hardware accelerator, we were able to access a laser cutter for a couple hours. After tweaking a couple parameters in the Grasshopper file generator (to fit the size of cardboard we found) we cut all the parts and returned to the hotel for assembly and testing.
